Is Anna Avalos going to die in the Chicago PD finale?

Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado) is in a tight spot. She’s already been subject to some close calls in the ninth season of Chicago PD, but things look to be more dangerous than ever heading into the season finale.

Avalos was undercover with Javier Escano (Jose Zuniga), a reputed crime boss who has been using his local business as a cover. Avalos’ cover was blown in the episode “Closer”, but Escano decided to keep working with her, suggesting a bizarre alliance.

Avalos went through a lot in the finale, titled “You and Me”. She went AWOL following the realization that Voight (Jason Beghe) had been withholding information from her. She was understandably driven by vengeance when she learned Escano was responsible for her past assault, and she murders him surprisingly early into the story.

Her decision to commit murder puts her at odds with the IU and Voight, who’s then tasked with bringing her in for a crime. Voight eventually tracks her down, but she gets in a car accident in an attempt to escape, and the situation spirals out of control from there.

Voight demands that she get out of the car and drop her weapon, but a dazed Anna decides to pull her weapon on Voight, bringing their friendship to a shattering end. Voight is visibly taken aback by the decision, but before he can do anything, Anna shoots him in the shoulder.

Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), still on the mend from last week’s explosion, arrives on the scene with Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), springs into action. She responds with lethal force to Voight’s wound, and shoots Anna down where she stands.

There’s an attempt to take Anna to the ED to revive her, but it’s clear that she’s not going to make it. The character is pronounced dead, and the team is left to contemplate the role they played in the deadly Escano operation. The writing was on the wall for Anna, but that doesn’t make her death any less shocking. One can only imagine how it will affect Voight moving forward.
