Chicago Fire went out with a bang. The season 10 finale delivered tons of emotional and dramatic moments, but at the same time, there were tons of unresolved story arcs involving characters like Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Violet (Hanako Greensmith).

Fans will have the entirety of the offseason to ponder the fate of these different firefighters, but the biggest question is when Chicago Fire is scheduled to return.

Here’s what you need to know about Fire season 11 and when its supposed to air on NBC.

When does Chicago Fire return?

Generally, Chicago Fire airs around the same time every year. The show generally returns between late September and early October, so there’s no reason to assume that season 11 would follow a different format.

The details surrounding season 11, including episode count and specific day, are still unclear, and such details are generally withheld until we get closer to the show’s return. The good news is that season 11 has already been renewed by NBC, which means fans won’t have to wait on the edge of their seat to find out if the season finale they just witnessed was actually the series finale.

While there’s a chance that season 11 could be the last for Chicago Fire, the strong has continued to rack up strong Nielsen ratings. According to TV Line, the finale led all shows in demo and total viewers with a whopping 6.8 million. This placed it above juggernaut titles like The Flash and Survivor.

NBC has made it clear that they want to keep doing business with Dick Wolf Productions and the One Chicago franchise, specifically. Paul Telegdy, the Chairman of the network’s entertainment, told Deadline that they foresee a bright collaborative future.

“Dick Wolf has proven time and time again that he makes shows audiences love”, Telegdy stated. “We are delighted, excited and proud that as part of this epic deal with Wolf Entertainment, NBC’s loyal audience will know that their favorite shows have a certain future for the next three years.”
