Dr. Pamela Blake (Sarah Rafferty) has not had an easy tenure on Chicago Med. The stern surgeon clashed with Marcel (Dominic Rains) initially, and once they’ve bonded romantically, she began to struggle with a lack of feeling in her hands.

Blake made it clear that her hands and her profession define her, and her desire to recover her skill led her to undergo surgery of her own in the season 7 finale. The question, of course, is whether it fixed or exacerbated her pre-existing condition.

Find out what happened to the character and what her future looks like.

Does Pamela Blake die in Chicago Med?

Blake’s surgery is a driving plot line in the season 7 finale. She makes it clear that she’s worried to go under the knife, and shortly before it starts, she slips Marcel a paper that gives him power of attorney over her daughter, Avery (Johanna Braddy).

The decision, which Avery doesn’t find out until the surgery is underway, upends whatever sense of trust she felt she had with her mother. The reason Blake gave power to Marcel is because she felt he would make the proper call if it came down to saving her life or saving her ability to use her hands.

The nightmare decision comes to pass, as a complication arises during the surgery, and Marcel is forced to decide whether to risk the feeling in Blake’s hands to ensure that she makes it out of the surgery alive. He does just that, and Blake awakens soon thereafter.

Is Pamela Blake leaving Chicago Med?

At the end of the season 7 finale, it’s revealed that Blake suffered a small stroke as a result of Marcel’s decision, and is unable to feel her face with her hands. The panic turned to anger as she then accused Marcel of betraying her wishes. Marcel apologized effusively, but the damage has been done.

It’s clear that Blake is going to have a long road back to recovery if recovery is even possible. As of right now, it looks like she’s not going to be able to wield a surgeon scalpel for the foreseeable future and will need extensive rehab if she has any hopes of returning to the operating room.

The silver lining, for audiences, at least, is that the unresolved state of Marcel and Blake’s dynamic suggests that there’s still plenty of their story to tell and that we’ll see her again in the future. It’s just unclear when that might be.
