Who died in the Chicago PD season 9 finale?

Chicago PD came to play. The season 9 finale, “Me and You”, had some major dramatic stakes, and it didn’t disappoint in providing fans with a satisfying conclusion. Unfortunately, it also signified the end of the line for certain characters.

There were two major deaths in the finale, with the first being committed as an act of vengeance and the second being done to protect others. Both were shocking, and were, ultimately, inevitable.

Did Anna die in Chicago PD finale?

The first death was Javier Escano (Jose Zuniga). The criminal mastermind had been a major pain in the side of the IU for several episodes, and the more that was learned about him, the clearer it got that he needed to be taken off the streets.

Voight (Jason Beghe) and Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) searched one of Escano’s shops on a whim, and it was there they discovered the criminal bleeding out on the floor. He had been stabbed in the stomach, and before he bled out, he confirmed that Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado) wielded the knife.

This sent shockwaves through the IU, as their former informant had now become a wanted killer. Voight ordered the team the get rid of any DNA evidence at Escano’s shop, but even then, he knew that bringing Anna in was going to be a tall order.

Voight and Anna cross paths at a gas station, and after a botched attempt to escape in a car, Anna pulls a gun on Voight and shoots him in the shoulder. It’s a devastating moment for both parties, as they had gotten close over the course of season 9.

Without missing a beat, however, Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) pulls out her weapon and shoots Anna down. The IU tries to run her to the hospital in an attempt to save her life, but she’s pronounced dead upon arrival. Anna served as both killer and victim in a single episode.

Her arc was a tragic one, and nobody knew it better than the man she wounded: Voight. The finale didn’t linger on Voight’s response to the death, but it’s sure to have major repercussions on him as season 10 gets underway. It’s the sort of bond one doesn’t easily forget.
