Who died in Chicago PD season 9?

If there is one thing Chicago PD fans have grown accustomed to over the years, it’s the shocking and unexpected deaths of beloved characters.

Just like on Chicago Fire, it’s not uncommon for the characters on Chicago PD to find themselves in dangerous situations season after season. While things go their way sometimes, there are just as many times when characters have gotten caught in the crossfire.

While it was a tame season for both Chicago Fire and Chicago Med with no major deaths occurring this season, the same can’t be said for Chicago PD which saw two shocking deaths in the final episode of the season that are sure to leave fans for a while.

Chicago PD season 9 deaths

Season 9 of Chicago PD saw many criminals and victims from the season’s case-of-the-week meet untimely ends, but the season also happened to bring with it two shocking deaths of characters who played crucial roles in season 9.

The first notable death of the season 9 finale occurred in the early part of the episode when Anna Avalos, Voight’s CI, took matters into her own hands and killed crime lord Javier Escano after discovering her cover had been blown. While we anticipated that Javier’s storyline would come to a close in season 9, we definitely didn’t anticipate he would be killed by Anna rather than in a shootout with the Intelligence Unit or by simply being brought into police custody.

The second death of the season was Anna Avalos, who died in a heartbreaking sequence after killing Javier and going on the run.

Following her actions, Anna went into a panic and tried to flee town. After getting into a car accident while on the run, Voight did his best to try to reason with Anna by providing her with assurances that he would do everything in his power to protect her.

In a panic, Anna pulled a gun on Voight and shot him in the shoulder. Having witnessed the exchange, Upton quickly pulled her weapon and shot Anna before she could fire off any further rounds. While Anna was quickly rushed to Med, she was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
