Bailey Chase is a familiar face to anybody who’s watched TV over the last two decades. He’s appeared on shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ugly Betty, and Damages. In addition to a number of starring roles, Chase has also made several guest appearances on other shows.

One of these shows, of course, is Chicago PD. The veteran actor appeared in a trio of episodes in season 2, and while he may not have stuck around long term, he did play an important role in the formation of the show.

Here’s what you need to know about the actor the character he played.

What happened to David Lang on Chicago PD?

Chase played a character named David Lang. A DEA agent based out of the Chicago area, he first encountered the PD team in the episode “Called In Dead”. He was immediately struck by the way that Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) handled herself, and decided that she would be a good fit for his agency.

The subsequent episodes that Lang appeared in, “Shouldn’t Have Been Alone” and “We Don’t Work Together Anymore”, see him try to convince Lindsay that she should leave the IU and work for the DEA. She considers the offer but ultimately decides that Chicago is where she belongs, and turns Lang down.

While Lindsay turns the offer down, this arc foreshadows the path her career ultimately takes. She exits Chicago PD in season 5 to work for an FBI counter-terrorism unit in New York. Lang may not have been able to convince her to leave, but the show implies that it was his approach that first planted the seeds for Lindsay’s departure.

Lang has not appeared since season 2, and given the packed schedule that Chase has maintained, it makes sense. In the last decade alone, the actor has appeared on huge programs like 24: Legacy, Twin Peaks, and The Rookie.

The fact that Lang hasn’t been on PD in so long, coupled with the fact that Lindsay has been gone for roughly the same amount, means that we won’t be seeing the character again anytime soon.
