Marlyne Barrett is an essential cast member on Chicago Med. As Maggie Lockwood, she helps to anchor the intensity and general craziness that happens on a weekly basis. The show’s medical center would be a significantly less stable were she not around.

Fortunately, fans won’t have to find out. It’s been confirmed that Barrett has signed a new deal with the medical drama that ensures she will continue to star as Maggie.

Here’s what you need to know about the deal and how long it will last.

Is Maggie Lockwood leaving Chicago Med?

According to Deadline, Barrett inked a multi-year deal with NBC and the Med showrunners. This means she will be onboard the show for the next few years, similar to the deals signed by fellow cast members like Brian Tee and Oliver Platt in 2021.

There’s no internal drama or nefarious reason as to why Barrett reupped her contract a year after the other Med stars. Her original contract ran through to the new year, so she didn’t have to sign a new one until very recently. By comparison, Tee and Platt’s original contracts expired last year, so the need to establish a new one was more pressing.

Barrett is clearly excited to continue her tenure as Maggie. She took to Instagram to repost the news along with the caption:

"“Here we go! ITS OFFICIAL. More to come for Maggie – Love the Wolf Pack! Looking forward to Season 8.”"

There’s plenty of reason to be eager for Maggie’s next chapter. The character has been through a lot in the last couple seasons, including a health scare, a possible pregnancy, and a deepening relationship with her biological daughter Vanessa (Asjha Cooper).

Season 8 will undoubtedly start hot, given the cliffhanger ending of season 7. The lives of two of Gaffney’s doctors hang in the balance, but rest assured, Maggie will play a crucial role in whatever the fallout of the near-death experience will be.
