Chicago PD takes place on the streets of the Windy City. The look and feel of the setting is crucial to the show, to the extent that its practically its own character. Most shows, however, regardless of where they’re set, are filmed in either Los Angeles or Vancouver.

It can be tough to tell the difference between a show that’s actually shot on location and a show that uses a few establishing shots before switching to a set in another state. So, the question has to be asked… is Chicago PD actually filmed on location?

Where is Chicago PD filmed?

We’re happy to confirm that Chicago PD is shot on location in Chicago. Several of the places seen in the show are real Windy City spots, including White Palace Grill, Boni Vino Pizza, The Village Inn and Lottie’s Pub. This adds a tremendous level of authenticity to the scenes, in addition to serving as great tourist spots for fans of Voight (Jason Beghe) and the rest of the IU.

PD‘s commitment to keeping things Chicago-based extends to scenes that take place indoors. According to The Sun, PD shoots all of its interior scenes in the Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, along with the other titles in the One Chicago franchise.

The District 21 headquarters seen in the show is filmed at the UIC Police Headquarters at 943 W. Maxwell St. It’s actually an operational police station, so tourism is not recommended, but you can always walk by it if you wanted to grab a quick photo or see the iconic spot with your own eyes.

The Chicago-ness is so real, in fact, that the cast regularly have to contend with the cold weather. During an interview with DuJour, Jesse Lee Soffer talked how much the temperature fluctuates.

“Yesterday it was 75 degrees out and we had this beautiful blue day, and then today it was like someone hit a light switch and now it’s fall”, he noted. “It’s 50 degrees out, it’s cloudy, it’s cold. We’ve got another two weeks of this and then it’ll probably drop below 30.”
