Who did Jessica Rothe play in Chicago PD?
Jessica Rothe is a big star these days. Her charismatic turn in Happy Death Day and its 2019 sequel has done wonders to boost her profile, which had been steadily building throughout the 2010s. Rothe acted for nearly a decade before her career breakthrough, and one early role that fans may have forgotten about was on Chicago PD.
Rothe played a doting housewife during the season 3 episode “If We Were Normal”. The episode follows the housewife, named Madison, as she deals with the fallout of her husband’s arrest. He was charged with kidnapping, and despite her chipper demeanor, Madison makes it clear there are domestic issues.
Was Jessica Rothe on Chicago PD?
The truth is eventually uncovered, thanks to the cagey work of detectives Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush). The duo determine that Madison was kidnapped when she was younger, and has been forced to act as her kidnapper’s wife to deflect any suspicion.
It’s a devastating twist, and Rothe squeezes every bit of emotional trauma she can out of the role. Her scenes opposite Halstead and Lindsay are particularly strong, as she has to walk a fine line between secrecy and fear. In truth, it’s one of PD‘s season 3 highlights.

Rothe had shown her acting chops in other procedural shows like Blue Bloods, but “If We Were Normal” gave her arguably her juiciest TV role to date, barring her scene-stealing turn in Utopia.
While we’re unlikely to see Rothe return to the One Chicago universe, given her high-profile roles in La La Land and the aforementioned Happy Death Day franchise, we can all definitely root for her to continue her industry ascension.
