Chicago Med is the youngest show in the One Chicago franchise. It’s also the one that spends the most time indoors, given that it focuses on doctors treating patients who are suffering from fluke and freak health scares.

Chicago Fire and PD pride themselves on being shot on location, and it makes sense, as most of the action takes place on the streets of the Windy City. It would be a lot tougher to fake a famous landmark then it would the inside of a hospital.

So, the question invariably pops up: is Chicago Med shot on location?

Where is Chicago Med filmed?

Yes, like its peers, Chicago Med is shot entirely on location in Chicago. The most notable location used is the Rush University Medical Center, which doubles as Gaffney Medical Center in the world of the show. Rush is still operational, and is located at 1653 W. Congress Parkway. The use of the real-world spot not only benefits the drama behind the show’s various emergencies, but it gives fans an address to visit whenever they happen to be visiting Illinois.

While Rush University Medical Center is used for exteriors and some interiors, the rest is shot at the Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, which is where the other One Chicago shows also go for their interiors.

The location features lengthy hallways meant to replicate the hallways of a real emergency spot, as well as specific treatment rooms. These controlled locations came in handy during the COVID pandemic, as it was easier to control the number of staffers and cast members here than a real location.

Chicago Med has also made use of real Chicago locations like Lottie’s, which doubles as Molly’s Bar in the show, and Graceland Cemetery. The former was often glimpsed in episodes that saw the characters in need of a drink after a long shift, but Med no longer shoots at the real Lottie’s.

A replica was made in its place, and all three One Chicago shows have resorted to using it. Still, the real spot is a fun place to go for tourists and OC die-hards.
