One Chicago is an interconnected franchise that spans firefighting, medical emergencies, and police work. It’s a sprawling TV experience with dozens of actors spread across three different ensembles. Given the size, however, and the tendency of producer Dick Wolf to use the same actors, there are bound to be overlaps in casting.

Actors appearing in different roles in the same franchise is not uncommon. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest franchise in the world, and even then, a star like Gemma Chan can play an alien and an Eternal in the span of a year.

So, with that in mind, here are the One Chicago stars who have pulled double duty over the years.

Brian Tee

Brian Tee is best known for playing Dr. Ethan Choi on Chicago Med, but he was already a franchise pro by the time he got cast. He starred in the Chicago PD episode “The Three G’s”, where he played a criminal who got under the skin of Voight (Jason Beghe).

It wasn’t a particularly distinct role, but it aired on April 8, 2015—which was only a few months before the Chicago Med series premiere. Not much has been made of the discrepancy, but it would be interesting to see Choi and Voight cross paths in the ED…

Guy Lockard

Guy Lockard made a sizable impression on fans during Chicago Med season 7. As Dylan Scott, a former police officer turned doctor, he proved himself to be one of the most essential pieces of a cast that was still reeling for major departures.

In keeping with the character’s Chicago background, however, Lockard previously appeared on an episode of Chicago Fire. He played an angry father who chained himself to one of the 51’s engines in protest, and was ultimately escorted off the premises.

If that wasn’t enough, the actor has also appeared in episodes of Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU. Dick Wolf clearly likes what he sees whenever Lockard appears onscreen.

Daniel Kyri

Daniel Kyri is a Chicago Fire staple. As the steadfast Ritter, he brings a wit and warmth that helps comfort his 51 team members. The actor has reprised his character on Chicago PD, but his one off appearance on Chicago Med is a little trickier to categorize. Instead of playing Ritter, Kyri plays the son of a medical patient named Lane Tucker.

It’s a brief part, but Kyri gets to interact with Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and show off his considerable acting chops. He obviously made a good impression.

S. Epatha Merkerson

While not exactly contained within One Chicago, Merkerson takes the gold medal when it comes to playing different characters in the Dick Wolf universe. She spent a decade plus as Anita Van Buren on Law & Order, only to pivot and spend nearly a decade playing Dr. Goodwin on Chicago Med.

While there’s been plenty of jokes about Merkerson crossing paths with her other character (some made by the actress herself), she’s made it clear that she won’t be reprising her Law & Order role, and that Med is her priority.
