Guy Lockard reveals how he was cast in Chicago Med
Guy Lockard has become a fan favorite in the span of a year. Since joining the Chicago Med cast as Dr. Dylan Scott, the actor has proven himself to be a warm and charismatic presence and a unique personality to offset the established characters.
Lockard may have seemed like a shot in the dark choice, but there was actually a precedent for his casting in the One Chicago universe. The actor had actually stood out on an episode of Chicago Fire prior to his involvement with Med, and his performance caught the eye of producers.
Here’s what Lockard had to say about the show and the general casting process.
Is Dylan Scott alive on Chicago Med?
The actor delved into the specifics of how he landed the role during a recent appearance on the Cherish, Live, and Dream podcast. He recalls getting the gig on Chicago Fire, and the ways in which good timing and the right connections helped him land his eventual starring role on Med.
"“The full story is that right before the pandemic in February 2020, I did an episode of Chicago Fire, and we did that episode and it played over well”, he recalled. Fast-forward to July of last year, I did an Audition for Dylan Scott, and one of the directors of the Chicago Fire episode got hired to be the executive producer of Chicago Med, and as soon as my tape came in, she pulled it.”"

From there, Lockard’s lawyer drafted up the contract, and he was in Chicago, shooting Med, within a week. It’s an incredible turnaround, and a testament to how fast things can move when all of the stars align.
Little has been revealed about the fate of Dr. Scott in season 8, given that the last time we saw him, he was trapped in a burning building with Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss). It’s a heck of a cliffhanger to leave fans with, but we’re confident that the characters will be able to make it out unscathed.
Lockard recently took to Instagram to post a photo of him on the Chicago Med set. He can be seen wearing his scrubs, which helps to confirm the fact that he survived the building fire and is back to helping patients in the ED.
