Carl Weathers is an iconic actor. He starred in the original Predator (1987), Happy Gilmore (1996), and of course, he played Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise. A person of his stature doesn’t often pop up on One Chicago, as Dick Wolf prefers to cast lesser known actors, but Weathers acclimated perfectly when he appeared in Chicago PD.

The offseason is the preferred time binge old One Chicago episodes, and so we felt now was the perfect time to revisit Weathers’ brief but notable stint with the franchise.

Who plays Mark Jefferies on Chicago PD?

Weathers played attorney Mark Jefferies. He debuted on Chicago Fire, but he quickly moved over to Chicago PD, where he would appear a handful of times between 2016 and 2017. The character had a moral code but was also pragmatic when it came to public perception.

During his time on the show, Jefferies would often stress the importance of giving the public a simple and clean narrative to cling on to. More often than not, he was right. The character did well with fans, so much so that he was added to the cast of the legal spinoff Chicago Justice. As we all know, unfortunately, the show was cancelled after only one season.

Despite having his tenure as Jefferies cut short, Weathers has stated that he enjoyed his time in the One Chicago universe. He told Cheat Sheet that he was pleased to get the opportunity to play something different on camera, as well as get a chance to work behind the camera.

"“I stressed to [Wolf Entertainment] a while ago that I was really interested in directing, and obviously my representatives were expressing the exact same thing”, he explained in 2021. “So here we are a number of years later, and I guess I got an invitation as a result and was really happy to receive it.”"

There are no plans to bring Jefferies back into the fold, as Weathers has continued to appear on high profile projects. He recently starred in season 2 of Disney’s The Mandalorian and provided a voice in Toy Story 4 (2019).
