When does Dawson leave Chicago Fire?

We all remember Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund). She was at the center of Chicago Fire during its early years, and her romance with Casey (Jesse Spencer) resulted in her being part of the most notable relationships in the whole cast.

Then, she was gone. Dawson’s exit was a shock to many, despite the fact that the character has made a few cameo appearances since. Of course, those who are binging Chicago Fire ahead of the new season may be unclear on when the Dawson era comes to an end.

When does the character leave the main cast? Will we see her again?

Dawson announced that she would be moving to Puerto Rico during the season 6 finale, “The Grand Gesture”. She decided that she things would be best for her if she got a fresh start outside of Chicago, and her closeness to Casey is effectively severed.

Fans were able to catch a glimpse of Dawson during the season 7 premiere, “A Closer Eye”, but it marked the last time that the character would appear as part of the central cast. She gets a call from Casey regarding their relationship, and it’s ultimately decided that things are over between them. It seemed like it would be the last time we would see Dawson.

Thankfully, the character returned in the season 8 episode “Best Friend Magic.” She returns to the Windy City to visit Casey and admit that she still has feelings for her ex-husband. They try to make things work between them, and contemplate what a future together would look like, but the story ends with them deciding that it would be best to continue going their separate ways.

Dawson goes back to Puerto Rico at the end of the episode, and we haven’t seen her since. There was some speculation that she would appear in the season 10 finale, given that a wedding would be a good excuse, but the writers decided to focus on the characters that are currently active on the show. Fingers crossed a cameo will happen in the future.
