Chicago PD photo teases SPOILER’s relationship status

Chicago PD may not have given fans a season 9 cliffhanger, but it did leave fans with lots of questions about key characters. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) will have to process the public death of Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado) after the undercover agent went rogue.

There’s also the relationship between Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Burgess (Marina Squerciati), which splintered after their adopted daughter was kidnapped and nearly killed. The different ways they responded to the kidnapping led to them parting ways, even if Ruzek asked them to move into his family’s house.

The Burzek dynamic is unclear heading into season 10. At least, it was. A new photo has given fans some much needed insight into where the couple’s story is headed.

Are Ruzek and Burgess getting back together in Chicago PD?

A casting call for PD asked for extras to appear in a courtroom scene in which they’d be playing “younger family members.” While the specifics of who’s family was not made clear, it did appear alongside a photo of Flueger posing with a handful of fans. The actor is wearing a dress shirt and slacks, implying that he will be a focal point during the court scenes.

If we take the season 9 arc of Burgess trying to maintain custody over her daughter into account, we can safely draw the conclusion that Ruzek is looking to gain partial custody this time around. It makes sense, given the emphasis Burgess put on wanting to keep Ruzek in her daughter’s life.

While the photo confirms that Ruzek will gain a legal stake in said daughter’s life, it doesn’t speak to the state of his relationship with Burgess. They are civil enough to raise a child together but it doesn’t ensure that they are ready to resume their relationship even voice the romantic feelings they’ve felt for one another in the past.

It’ll be interesting to watch as the characters sort through their complicated emotions in the midst of tense procedural cases.
