Which Walking Dead star was cut from the Chicago Med pilot?
Chicago Med has had a stellar roster of actors over the years. Whether discussing the main cast or the talented people who have made up the guest star list, the show is always quick to provide us with a great performance.
Because of the show’s sterling reputation for getting familiar faces, fans may be surprised to find out that Med actually had a Walking Dead star in their midst early on, only to remove her from the pilot episode.
Here’s what you need to know about the show’s forgotten character.
Was Laurie Holden in Chicago Med?
Laurie Holden was cast to play Dr. Hannah Tramble during Med‘s first season. She was brought on to be a central part of the show’s ensemble, with plans for her to stick around indefinitely. Tramble even appeared in the backdoor pilot for the show, which doubled as the Chicago Fire episode “I Am the Apocalypse.”
Everything seemed to be going according to plan until August 2015, when it was announced that Holden would not be appearing in the show. The Med producers confirmed that Holden’s scenes would be cut from the official pilot, and that Tramble would not be recast but rewritten out of the show. They preferred to introduce a new female character, which eventually took the shape of Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto).

It’s fascinating to consider how Chicago Med would have been different had Holden stuck around, and how Dr. Tramble would have interacted with the rest of the characters long term. Things went how they were supposed to, however, as both the show and the actress have had great success.
Holden is best known for her seasons-long run on The Walking Dead, but since 2015, she has also appeared on hit shows like The Americans and The Boys. She played the Crimson Countess in the latter.
