How old is Maggie Lockwood on Chicago Med?
Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) is the heart of Chicago Med. She’s always on hand to carry the emotional weight of the characters around her, or help a patient through a difficult time. She’s one of the most empathetic people on the show, bar none.
Of course, given Maggie’s veteran status on Chicago Med, some viewers may be curious about her age and how long she’s been working at Gaffney. There’s been some confusion about it, given the information that the show has given and how old the actress who plays her is.
Here’s what we’ve been able to figure out.
How old is Marlyne Barrett on Chicago Med?
There have been lots of clues about Maggie’s age over the course of the show. She reveals that she’s 29 years old when she’s discussing pregnancy during season 3, which means that would be 34 years old as of 2023.
This mostly tracks when taking into account how long it takes someone to get a PhD. Most people start their medical training during their college years, which means that she could have started at Gaffney as early as her mid-20s (aka around the same time as Med season 1).
The decision to make Maggie 34 is sound when considering it from these different angles, but it sort of falls apart when taking other facets of her life into account. For one, she has a kid who’s old enough to work at Gaffney alongside her. Assuming that Vanessa (Asjha Cooper) is in her early 20s then Maggie would have been around 12 or 13 when she had her. That math doesn’t add up.

Another facet to take into account is the age of the actress who plays Maggie: Marlyne Barrett. She was born September 13, 1978, which makes her 44. At a full decade older than the woman she plays onscreen, it’s hard to believe that the writers have continued to adhere to the notion that Maggie is barely out of her 30s.
In truth, the show has treated Maggie as though she were much closer to Barrett’s age, which makes more sense from both a believability and a narrative standpoint. It’s far more believable that a woman in her early 40s would have a daughter in her early 20s. So, despite what Med has told us, we can assume that Maggie is actually closer to 44.
