Chicago PD alum Lisseth Chavez cast on The Rookie

Lisseth Chavez was a star-in-the-making on Chicago PD. The actress played Vanessa Rojas during the seventh season of the show, and just when it seemed as though she would be making the leap from supporting character to regular cast member, she was gone.

Rojas’s disappearance has been one of the few instances of a One Chicago show not fleshing out a character’s exit, but thankfully, Chavez has continued to work steadily on the small screen.

Here’s a rundown of her latest, and arguably most exciting, venture yet.

Is Lisseth Chavez on The Rookie?

Deadline reports that Chavez has been cast in the upcoming season of the ABC police procedural The Rookie. She will play a character named Celina, a newcomer to the LAPD who has scored high marks at the academy but has yet to prove herself in the field.

The description for the character adds that her unconventional approach to police work makes her a difficult rookie to train, but its this unconventionality that will fuel her chemistry with her mentor — the former rookie himself, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion).

Fillion discussed the fact that would be training a newcomer during the Rookie panel at San Diego Comic Con, and accidentally let it slip that the newcomer would be a woman. He avoided using any names, but now we know that Chavez was the actress that he was trying to conceal.

In between her badge-wielding roles on Chicago PD and the upcoming Rookie, Chavez was a prime character on CW’s Legends of Tomorrow. We’re excited to see the actress return to the streets and use her gritty screen presence to bolster an already-enjoyable show.
