Move over, Marvel. The most ambitious (and unexpected) crossover event of 2022 has arrived, and its courtesy of Law & Order. The procedural franchise has announced plans to premiere all three of their shows with a massive, three-part crossover on Thursday, September 22.

This means that fans will get to see characters from Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime collaborating on a single case for the first time in franchise history. It’s been a long time coming, but the details make it sound as though it will be well worth it.

Here’s what we know so far.

Is there a Law and Order crossover episode?

TV Line reports that the crossover event will focus on a girl who gets shot and killed under mysterious circumstances. Organized Crime detectives Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan) and Shaw (Mehcad Brooks) are tasked with finding the culprit, and they bring it SVU‘s Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) for assistance.

Once crucial evidence is uncovered, Law & Order stalwarts Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) and Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) will piece together the larger “international crime ring” responsible for the case and contend with complications that “threaten the outcome of their case.”

The rumors of a Law & Order crossover have been swirling since the flagship show returned last season. The possibilities of all three titles collaborating on a single case is a precedent that’s been established with Dick Wolf’s One Chicago universe, so it was only a matter of time before it came to fruition.

Law & Order showrunner Rick Eid told the outlet that the cohesiveness of the story is what will help it stand out from other crossover events.

"“Unlike other crossovers, this is structured and produced more like a movie”, he noted. “It’s not a handoff from one show to the next. It’s really one story that involves all the characters from the different shows.”"

We can’t wait to see how all of the beloved Law & Order characters interact, and how their often clashing styles will compliment each other as they try to take down a sprawling threat.
