Kelli Giddish has decided to call it a day. After playing Det. Amanda Rollins on Law & Order for more than a decade, the actress has announced that she will be leaving the show during its 24th season. It has not yet been confirmed when or how exactly she will be written out.

TV Line reports that Giddish had informed the showrunners of her decision a while ago, and that she wanted to issue a statement in an effort to stave off the rumors that had been surfacing with regards to her character.

Is Amanda Rollins leaving Law & Order?

"“I wanted to address the chatter I’ve seen online and let everyone know that this will, indeed, be my last season on Law & Order: SVU“, the actress said in a written statement. “Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of the Law & Order family for the last 12 years.”"

Giddish went on to praise producer Dick Wolf and co-star Mariska Hargitay, citing the impact they have had on both her career and her life. She also alluded to a new chapter in her career, though she remained vague on what that might look like.

"“I want to thank Dick Wolf, Mariska Hargitay, Warren Leight, Peter Jankowski, NBC, Universal Television, all of my co-stars, every single member on the crew and all the writers here for our incredible work together these last 12 years”, she added. “I’m so excited to take all the things I have learned in my time on SVU and put them toward everything that’s next to come.”"

NBC has not revealed their plans for Rollins as a character, but an insider for SVU claimed that she will experience a traumatic event early on in season 24. It’s possible said traumatic event could be a factor in why she chooses to leave the unit.

The silver lining of Giddish’s departure, however, is that she will still be on hand to participate in the sprawling, multi-part crossover event that will unite all three Law & Order shows. It will be a worthy swan song for such a beloved character.
