The Intelligence Unit is about to undergo its biggest shakeup in years. In a shocking and unexpected turn of events, Variety is reporting Chicago PD star Jesse Lee Soffer will be leaving the series this fall after 10 seasons as Detective Jay Halstead.

The news comes as filming on the show’s tenth season is currently underway and marks the show’s biggest casting shakeup since the departure of Jon Seda’s Detective Antonio Dawson back in season 6.

"“I want to thank the incredible fans for their unwavering support during the past 10 years and want to express my deepest gratitude to Dick Wolf and everyone at Wolf Entertainment, Peter Jankowski, Matt Olmstead, Derek Haas, Michael Brandt, Rick Eid, Gwen Sigan, NBC, Universal Television, my fellow castmates and our incredible crew,” he said in a statement released by Variety. “To create this hour drama week after week has been a labor of love by everyone who touches the show. I will always be proud of my time as Det. Jay Halstead.”"

It is not yet known how exactly his character will be written out of the show, just that his exit will occur in the show’s upcoming tenth season.

When is Jesse Lee Soffer leaving Chicago PD?

At this time, NBC has not confirmed when exactly Jesse Lee Soffer will be leaving Chicago PD, but it has been confirmed the actor’s exit will occur in the show’s upcoming tenth season. More specifically, it has been reported his exit will occur this fall which means his exit should occur sometime in the first half of the season.

One possibility is that Soffer could exit in the show’s 200th episode, after all, it was in Chicago Fire‘s 200th episode that we saw Jesse Spencer exit the series. It’s also possible we could see his exit sometime after the 200th episode perhaps in or ahead of the show’s fall finale.

Either way, we know Soffer’s exit will be coming sometime before the show’s winter break which means he’s likely to depart by or before the tenth episode in the season.
