FBI season 4 finished the 2021-22 season as one of CBS’s most-watched scripted programs and the series that kicked off the FBI franchise shows no signs of slowing down! In fact, CBS was so sure of the show’s continued success that it handed out 2-season renewals to the entire FBI franchise this year meaning they’ll be sticking around until at least the 2023-24 season.

Hot off another successful season, FBI season 5 is coming together nicely with production underway as CBS prepares for the show’s return this season — which is quickly approaching.

As we look ahead to the return of the FBI franchise, we’ve rounded up everything we know about the FBI season 5 thus far including the season’s release date, cast, synopsis, trailer, and more below.

FBI season 5 release date

FBI season 5 is set to premiere at 8/7c on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, where it will once again lead into new episodes of FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted! While there has been some speculation that the season could kick off with the yet-to-be-aired season 4 finale, CBS has confirmed the episode will not serve as its season premiere. As such, it remains unknown when or if the episode will be aired.

FBI season 5 cast

While some of the other FBI series are going through some casting shakeups this season, the flagship series won’t be undergoing any major changes as all of its core cast members will be returning for the show’s upcoming fifth season!

While Missy Peregrym will be returning as Special Agent Bell this season, Peregrym has confirmed she will miss the first few episodes of season 5 as her maternity leave will continue until September.

FBI season 5 synopsis

FBI season 5 will begin with an explosive premiere as the team works to track down a massive bomb that has landed in the wrong hands and could lead to a mass-casualty event if detonated. As the team works to secure the bomb, one agent will struggle to keep a promise made to their son that becomes jeopardized by the case.

Here is how CBS describes the FBI season 5 premiere:

"The team pivots when their sting operation to secure a massive bomb from an illegal broker leads them to discover that the device is already in the wrong hands. Also, Jubal’s promise to be present at his son’s birthday party is put to the test as the case continues to heat up, on the fifth season premiere of the CBS Original series FBI"

At this time, CBS has not yet released a trailer for FBI’s upcoming fifth season and it’s likely we’re going to have to wait until closer to September before the official trailer arrives. As soon as a trailer for season 5 has arrived, we’ll be sure to update this piece!
