Marina Squierciati says goodbye to Chicago PD costar Jesse Lee Soffer

The news that Jesse Lee Soffer is leaving Chicago PD is still being processed by fans. It was a shocking discovery for us, no doubt, as we gotten to know and love Soffer’s performance as Jay Halstead over the course of a decade.

Of course, we can’t imagine what it must be like for the cast members who have worked next to Soffer for that decade. Tracy Spiridakos has already made a statement on social media regarding the news, and now, Marina Squerciati has made her feelings on the matter known.

The Chicago PD actress took to Instagram to post a few silly photos of her and Soffer, as well as a sweet message for her soon to be former co-star.

When is Jesse Lee Soffer leaving Chicago PD?

Squerciati posted a photo of her smelling Soffer’s police cap, in what appears to be a behind the scenes photo from production. She riffed on the silliness of the photo with the caption: “I’ll never forget the smell of your noggin…because I stole your service cap, so I would never forget the smell of your noggin, which is a totally normal not stalkerly thing to do.”

While it was nice to have some levity at a time when fans are still processing the news, Squerciati did include some genuine words of encouragement towards the end of the Instagram post. “In all seriousness. I love you Jesse”, she added.

The news of Soffer’s exit is undoubtedly sad, but at least we know that we get to see him return for a good portion of the upcoming season 10. The actor confirmed that he would not appear in future seasons, though he left the reasoning behind his departure vague.

On the bright side, the fact that the actor felt the need to definitely state that he will not return for future Chicago PD seasons suggests that the show is in great shape, and NBC will likely pick it up for additional seasons down the line. Who knows, maybe Soffer will follow in the footsteps of a fellow Jesse, Chicago Fire‘s Jesse Spencer, and return for a cameo.
