NBC releases photos of Jesse Lee Soffer’s final Chicago PD episodes
Still in shock? So are we. The news that Jesse Lee Soffer will be leaving Chicago PD is still settling with fans, but there are still some silver linings to be gleamed. Case in point: NBC has released the first official photos from season 10, and they provide the first look of Jay Halstead’s final episodes.
The photos don’t provide anything too spoiler-heavy, but they do give some insight in the focus of the season, and the ways in which Halstead will be working alongside newcomer Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar). What seemed like a mentorship in season 9 has taken on an added dimension, now that we know Aguilar is being promoted to full-time cast member in Halstead’s absence.
Here are all of the new photos having to do with Halstead (and potentially, his final case).
NBC releases first images of Halstead’s final episodes
Halstead is guaranteed to get a lot of screen time with Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), his closest work confidante and, of course, his wife. The duo have always worked well together, and seeing them team up is destined to be bittersweet, since we know there won’t be more many more chances for them to do so.
It’s also worth noting that the promotional photos for Chicago PD show that Torres is involved in the van scenes, meaning that he will be at Halstead’s side and following the elder officer’s lead. There was some reluctance to take Torres on at first, but it’s clear the two men have developed a mutual respect that will carry over into the new season.
The photo of Halstead and Upton in action begs the question: will the former die in the line of fire? There’s only so many ways that the writing team can realistically get rid of Halstead without irking fans. He wouldn’t just up and move out of Chicago, nor would he divorce Upton after the triumph of last season’s impromptu wedding.
We’re not saying that Halstead has a target on his back, but we are saying that when the season 10 premiere rolls around, we will be holding our breath in anticipation whenever the character has to turn a corner or pull out his gun.
Once more, we’re seeing the married couple on the job. The title of the season 10 premiere, “Let It Bleed”, has some violent undertones, so fingers crossed that the aforementioned bleeding will be done by characters other than Halstead. We want to hang onto him for as long as possible.
