Chicago Fire has had its fair share of losses. Some fans are still dealing with the exit of Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer), which was made easier by his reappearance in the season 10 finale. We probably won’t see the character for a while, but he’s not the only one who bid farewell to fans in the episode.

Based on the arc of this character, and the fact that they don’t appear in any of the promo photos that NBC has released for season 11, we can assume that their time on the show has come to an end. Who, you might ask?

Well, Emma Jacobs (Caitlin Carver), of course. The character was a pain in the side of multiple 51 members from the moment she appeared, and she covertly became the biggest villain of season 10 by the time all was said and done.

Thankfully, Jacobs’s plan to usurp Violet (Hanako Greensmith) and become the head of the medic team fell apart, despite her efforts to blackmail both Violet and Chief Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas). Her inability to keep a cool head while on the job came back to bite her, and Hawkins took great pleasure in firing her on the spot.

While the impact of the blackmail situation will likely reverberate through season 11, particularly with Violet and Hawkins, it looks like Jacobs is nowhere to be found. Her firing closed the book on whatever threat she posed, and the return of Brett (Kara Killmer) has erased the need for a medic replacement (thank goodness).

It makes sense, given that she was written and performed like a one-dimensional villain more than a layered, thoughtful addition to the 51 team. We’d be surprised if she came back at some point in the future.
