Chicago Fire boss says season 11 premiere ‘never lets up’
Chicago Fire season 11 is almost here, and we’re getting lots of exciting hints as to where the show is headed. We’ve gotten promo photos, teaser trailers, and behind-the-scenes posts from the cast on social media, but now we’re getting some insight from showrunner Derek Haas.
Haas recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight to discuss the tone of the season 11 premiere and how it will differ from premieres before it. He also touches on how much time passes between the premiere and last season’s tense finale.
When does Chicago Fire season 11 return?
"“Season 11 blasts off with a relentless pace, starting right where we left Severide and Kidd last season — and the episode never lets up for the full hour”, the showrunner explained. “Let’s just say it has a lot of heat. From the very first second.”"
The heat makes sense, given the frenetic tone of the One Chicago teaser. It looks like Stellaride are given little time to process the attack they experienced during their wedding night, and are quickly thrown into an emergency situation that looks as though it will take up most of the episode’s run time.

The photos that have been released for the episode, titled “Hold Me Tight”, show both Kidd and Severide trying to make sense of the emergency alongside their 51 teams. There’s structures to be sifted through and patients to be rushed off to the hospital.
One particularly dire photo sees Kidd and Violet (Hanako Greensmith) helping Brett (Kara Killmer) tend to someone who was involved in the accident.
As with the best teasers, Haas has kept details about the plot and the overarching narrative under wraps, so that fans going into it can be surprised/thrilled in real time. All we know for sure is that it will be one of Chicago Fire‘s tensest episodes in recent memory, and will help set the tone for a season that’s all about embracing change.
Chicago Fire season 11 will premiere Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
