Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) is going through a rough patch. Sure, she’s thriving professionally, but the romance she built with Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) fell apart when the latter decided to move on from Chicago Fire.

There have been attempts made to keep the relationship going, but even a week long trip by Brett and a return by Casey in the season 10 finale couldn’t smooth over the disconnect. Are they going to make it? Well, based on recent statements, things are only going to get tougher.

Is Brett leaving Chicago Fire?

During a recent interview with TV Insider, Killmer explained that the relationship between Brett and Casey is going to “evolve” in ways that fans won’t necessarily expect. Whether than means staying together or calling off their romance and remaining friends remains to be seen, but the actress did drop a bombshell revelation.

“You might see an old love pass through”, Killmer revealed. There are several characters that Brett has been romantically linked to over the course of the show, but only a few fit the bill of being able to “pass through.” Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) is out because he’s still on the show, of course, and its not likely that Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) will reappear, given how busy the actor is with La Brea.

That means it could be characters as varied as Kyle Sheffield (Teddy Sears) or Greg Grainger Jon-Michael Ecker). The former was engaged to Brett, and the latter broke things off because he knew that Brett had feelings for Casey (which she obviously did). Regardless of who it is, it’ll be a unique approach to take with Brett, as a means of furthering her character.

The return of an old love with add further complications to Brett’s life, given that she intends to throw herself into her work. “She has the paramedicine program she created”, Killmer added. “You’re really going to see her try to make a difference in the city.”

We can’t wait to see how it all comes together in season 11.
