Chicago Med will be undergoing some changes in season 8. In addition to the departure of some characters, and the arrival of two newcomers, the medical drama will be refurbishing its weekly focus to include someone who was previously a supporting player.

Don’t get us wrong, Med will still have plenty of time to dedicate to veterans like Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett), but the poster for season 8 suggests that Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) will be elevated to their level of importance.

One look at the poster and you can see that Dr. Asher is front-and-center. She’s even larger than some of the aforementioned characters, which is a not-so-subtle way of suggesting that she will play a huge part in the narrative of the entire season.

This makes sense, given her complicated history within Med. She’s the rare character who has left and come back, meaning she has an established rapport with the rest of the ensemble, while still being fresh enough to feel like a brand new presence. It’s the best of both worlds, really.

Of course, an increased focus means more drama, and the photos for the season 8 premiere show that Asher is not having the easiest resuming her duties. We see her being held up by Dr. Halstead and Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) as she appears to have experienced some accident. Another promo photo sees her in bed with what looks to be a head wound.

It’s unclear what happens to her, and whether it pertains to her past struggles with drugs, but it will no doubt color her character in a way that we haven’t previously seen. Archer (Steven Weber) made it clear last season that he was initially reluctant to welcome Asher back, and if she shows any signs of relapse, the former will most certainly have his eye on her.

Next. Is Med in danger of being cancelled?. dark
