It’s been a few since Jesse Lee Soffer confirmed that he’d be leaving Chicago PD, but the waves are still being felt throughout the rest of the franchise. Several of his co-stars have hopped on Twitter and Instagram to voice their sadness, including his onscreen wife, Tracy Spiridakos, and his screen sibling, Nick Gehlfuss.

The reactions just keep coming, however. Chicago Fire star Kara Killmer spoke to Today about the Soffer departure, and she admitted to being just as “shocked” as the fans when she found out.

When is Halstead leaving Chicago PD?

“He’s done such a great job with that character” Killmer told the publication. “I got to do a one-on-one scene when I first started, and he’s always been lovely to me. He does such good work.” She’s one of the many performers who have crossed paths with Soffer during the crossover events, and fans are, understandably, hoping that we will get to see the actor in one more before he leaves.

There were plans of a crossover during last season, but scheduling conflicts and the fallout of the COVID pandemic led to the showrunners of each show deciding to delay it. There hasn’t been talk about when the crossover event will occur, but Soffer has confirmed that he will be present for at least a chunk of PD season 10.

Killmer knows all too well the repercussions of a departing cast member. Her character, Brett, is in a state of flux because her boyfriend, Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer), decided to up and leave during the middle of Fire season 10. He returned for the finale, but it remains to be seen how the show will handle his long term absence.

Killmer recently revealed that the show will allow Brett to focus on her work as a means of coping with the long distance relationship. There will also be the return of an “old love”, though the actor and the showrunners have kept quiet on which love it could be.

Regardless, the upcoming seasons of One Chicago are poised to be major ones for both Killmer and Soffer. We can’t wait.
