Chicago Fire halts production after drive-by shooting
Chicago Fire has hit a snag. The firefighting drama was forced to halt production on season 11 this week, when gunshots were reported near the set. Thankfully, nobody was injured, but it has led to a hiatus that has yet to be determined in terms of how long it will last.
The Chicago Police Department told Variety that an unidentified man carrying a handgun fired at a group of people who were standing on the 5900 block of W. Madison Street at approximately 1:45 p.m. The man then left the scene in a dark-colored SUV, though a discernable license plate was not mentioned.
Why did Chicago Fire stop production?
The production team for Chicago Fire immediately shut down and began utilizing safety protocols that have become standard for the show. None of the cast members of producers have spoken on the shooting, or provided a tentative date for when production will resume.
This isn’t the first time the One Chicago franchise has run into production issues this summer. Med was caught in the middle of a shooting in July, when stray bullets pierced a fence and made its way into a trailer. Nobody was injured, thankfully, and the show resumed filming the same day.

The shooting in question did affect another show that was filming nearby though, Justified. A car smashed through a protective barrier and forced several cast and crew members to hit the floor and duck, as shots were being fired. The Justified production was put on hiatus for several days.
On the bright side, the production halt will not effect the release date for Chicago Fire season 11. It will still premiere on Wednesday, September 21, alongside Chicago Med and PD. In addition to resolving the arcs of the previous finale, the episode will delve into the romantic future of Brett (Kara Killmer) and Violet (Hanako Greensmith).
