Why is Jesse Lee Soffer leaving Chicago PD?
Jesse Lee Soffer has left the building. The actor made it known that the current season of Chicago PD would be his last, and now that the third episode has aired, we have to make peace with the fact that he’s gone. He leaves behind a legacy of cases and unforgettable moments.
Soffer confirmed the prior to the season 10 premiere by thanking his fellow actors and the team who gave him the role of Halstead a decade ago. He also praised the fans, in a statement obtained by Variety.

Notably absent from Soffer’s statement was a reason as to why he left. There are several different theories as to why he decided to step back from Chicago PD. The most likely is that he wanted to step back from a character that he had spent more than a decade playing.

It’s understandable, and very common for actors to want to distance themselves from characters past a certain amount of time. It can be difficult to carry on, and One Chicago has seen plenty of cases of actors wanting to leave. It’s been less than a year since another Jesse, Jesse Spencer, announced that he would be leaving Chicago Fire.
While other One Chicago actors have left the show and gone on to star in other titles and films, Soffer does not have any projects lined up for the future. Chicago PD is the most recent credit on his IMDb, so it’s very possible that the actor will take a step back from acting in general to focus on his personal life. It makes sense, given that he’s acted consistently since 1993.
