Chicago PD: Tracy Spiridakos says ‘Hailey’s worried about Jay’
Chicago PD is in a transition period. The synopsis for the season 10 premiere reveals that not only will there be a new chief, but there will be some tension between Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).
Given the close call that all three characters had last season, and the fact they were nearly caught by the FBI, the tension makes sense. Still, there’s plenty we don’t know, and will find out over the course of the episode.
Are Halstead and Upton still married?
Fortunately, Spiridakos shed some light on the drama during a recent interview with TV Insider.
The actress told the outlet that her character tries repeatedly to get through to Voight, who is still guilt-ridden over the death of informant Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado). “Hailey is worried about Voight, and Voight is fixated on making Anna’s death mean something,” she revealed.
This lines up with the teaser trailer, which sees Voight being told that he could lose control of the IU if he keeps going down a destructive path.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg, however. Halstead has been the main event ever since it was announced that he would be leaving the show after season 10, so Spiridakos’s insight into the character is particularly fascinating.
“Hailey’s worried about Jay”, she admits. “They’re both concerned for Voight, but their approach to how to handle it is very different.” Upton and Halstead have historically taken very different angles to police work, so one can only imagine the disagreements they’re going to have when it comes to someone they both view as a father figure.
There hasn’t been any reports on how (or when) Halstead is going to be written out of the show, so it’s possible that the Voight situation is the thing that triggers it. We can’t wait to find out.
