From the minute Europol agent Katrin Jaeger received a promotion in the FBI: International season 1 finale, fans have questioned whether or not the promotion could spell trouble for Jaeger’s future on the show.

Sure, it wasn’t exactly a clearcut exit storyline but with Jarger accepting a new job that would no longer see her serving as a direct liaison with the Fly Team there was understandably reason for concern. Sadly, the storyline was indeed designed as an exit storyline as Christiane Paul will not be returning as a series regular for the second season of CBS’s newest FBI series.

After just one season of the series, Paul has exited the show and will not return meaning the promotion her character received was indeed designed to help explain her exit from the show.

What happened to Jaeger on FBI: International?

In the season 1 finale of FBI: International, Katrin Jaeger received an unexpected promotion to oversee all of Western Europe — this after nearly losing her job because of a vindictive agent. In accepting the promotion, Jaeger will no longer serve as the Fly Team’s liaison and has left the show.

With Jaeger moving on to a larger role with Europol, FBI: International will welcome a new liaison for the Fly team with the introduction of Eva-Jane Willis’s Megan “Smitty” Garretson. Garretson is described as a “street-wise Europol agent” who has an extensive undercover background who will join the Fly Team as their new liaison to help with the host countries the team will be operating out of.

Why did Christiane Paul leave FBI: International?

While most actors tend to release a statement after a departure from a series, Christiane Paul has yet to address her exit from the series. As such, it is unclear what might have led to her decision to leave the show such as whether it was to pursue other opportunities or as a result of creative decisions.

One thing that we do know is that the writers haven’t ruled out a possible return for the character in the future, so it’s always possible we could see Paul return for a guest appearance.
