Chicago Fire is no stranger to cast turnover, but things looked pretty solidified heading into the season 11 premiere. The firefighters who made up the 51 were a varied bunch, and it seemed as though people like Gallo (Alberto Rosende) was helping to bring youth into the mix.

Mason (Chris Mansa) was another character who on the younger side, and given how much time had been dedicated to his enrollment process, it seemed as though he’d be around for a while. It turns out that life had other plans for the heroic rookie, however.

Is Chris Mansa leaving Chicago Fire?

Keep in mind that the rest of the post has spoilers for the Chicago Fire season 11 premiere. That said, if you want details right away, you’ve come to the right place.

Mason is notably absent from the season 11 premiere, and we only learn of his situation when some of the other characters discuss him. Apparently, he decided to go back to Colorado to be with his family, and made the pivot to fighting forest fires instead of ones based in the city.

It’s a bummer to see such a promising character go, which is clear in the way Boden (Eamonn Walker) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) discuss him. The hopes were high for the character at the 51, as the episode in which he was hired was literally called “The Missing Piece.”

That being said, the departure of one character begets the arrival of another. Mason’s replacement is a guy named Sam Carver (Jake Lockett), who went to the academy the same time as Kidd and is the furthest thing from her ideal choice. The tension between the two is immediate, especially when Kidd recognizes how much Boden is charmed by Carver.

While the arrival of this new character will no doubt spice things up, we hope that Mason is able to make a cameo at some point in the future, or at least get name-dropped by one of the other team members.
