Chicago Fire hinted at some big decisions in the season 11 premiere. Romances were revived, others were ended, and some characters outright left. One character who underwent a more subtle crisis, however, was Severide (Taylor Kinney).

Severide is still dealing with the fallout of the case that got him pummeled last season, and nearly led to him and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) being murdered on their honeymoon. He’s fed up and he has ever right to be. Fortunately, he’s got some connections with Chicago PD.

The character’s attempts to rationalize his near-death experience leads him to discover a mole in the Chicago police department. Apparently, someone in the department leaked the location of his and Kidd’s honeymoon, and little is being done to determine the identity of said mole.

Severide meets up with an officer named Pryma, but the latter does nothing to quell his concerns. He says nothing of the mole and repeatedly tells Severide that he is “handling it” without stating how. Severide gets understandably agitated, and decides to do a little digging of his own.

That’s when we get our unexpected crossover moment! Severide reaches out to none other than Chicago PD‘s Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), who confirms all of his worst fears about Pryma. She tells him that Pryma is doing nothing to uncover the mole, and that he may be using the situation to his advantage.

Severide drives off in a rage, but the brief exchange between the Fire and PD characters suggests a bigger issue that may, in fact, lead into the multi-part crossover that the showrunners have been teasing for over a year. Fire also appeared in the opening moments of the Chicago Med premiere, so it’s possible the franchise is getting fans primed for more as the 2022-23 season progresses.
