Chicago PD spoilers: Is Jay Halstead in the season 10 premiere?

Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) is the big story heading into Chicago PD season 10. The character has a mainstay on the show, but it’s been confirmed that this batch of episodes will be his last. It’s nerve-racking to ponder the ways in which he’ll be written off, but it gets worse when you realize that the writers have yet to reveal when he leaves.

He could perish five minutes in or during the finale, based on what we’ve been told. So, with that in mind, does Halstead appear in the season 10 premiere? Does he make it to the end of the episode in one piece?

When is Jesse Lee Soffer leaving Chicago PD?

Thankfully, he does. Halstead is present throughout the entirety of the premiere, and he actually plays the crucial role of peacemaker between the bitter Voight (Jason Beghe) and the guilt-ridden Upton (Tracy Spiridakos). He sees both sides of the conflict, and tries to bridge the gap with mixed results.

While Halstead presence has yet to be compromised, the episode does hint at the issues that could eventually lead to his exit. He’s present when Upton confronts Voight about the warpath he’s been on, and the boss chastises both of them for bringing their personal feelings into the workplace.

Voight tells Upton and Halstead that they need to be more professional, and if they continue to behave the way they have been, they will cease working together. It bears the ring of a threat, and the discomfort the married couple share afterwards suggests that more strife is ahead.

Could Halstead clashing with Voight be the thing that gets him kicked off the force? The two have butted heads pretty consistently for the last couple years, so it’ll be interesting to see if this chat is planting the seeds for Halstead’s arc or if it’s a misdirection for the real reason he leaves.

While we’re still saddened by the fact that Halstead is on the way out, the speculation as to how and why has been endlessly fascinating.
