Chicago Med left fans on a cliffhanger that put the lives of two main characters in danger: Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Dr. Dylan Scott (Guy Lockard). They made it out alive, thankfully, as we found out in the season 8 premiere, but not everyone was as lucky.

The season premiere brought with it a devastating death, and the aftermath of this death led one of the other characters to quit their job and leave the show for good. Who was it though? How did they die?

Did Dylan Scott die on Chicago Med?

The victim in question was Milena “Jo” Jovanovic (Riley Voelkel), an undercover cop who got into a car accident last season and was forced to disclose her identity to Scott. Jo had been deep in with the Serbian Mafia, and the accident put her in a compromising situation that led to Scott trying to get her to a safe hiding place.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to follow through. Attackers were able to get to Jo, and while Scott was on hand to protect her, he ended up firing a gun that passed through its intended target (the attacker) and struck Jo in the stomach. She died as a result of the wound minutes later.

Scott was understandably traumatized by what happened, especially since he and Jo had struck up a romantic relationship during their brief time together. Scott eventually tells Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) that he “killed the woman” he loves, and will no longer be able to carry out his duties at Gaffney Medical Center. He resigns.

It’s a tremendously sad ending for a character who always seemed to look on the bright side of things. It also blindsided fans, who were under the impression that Scott would be a centerpiece character for years to come.

Variety confirmed that Lockard will not be coming back for any more season 8 episodes.
