Who is the new guy on Chicago PD?
The “new guy” is a big distinction on a procedural show. It denotes interest, but also uncertainty. Is he going to stick around? Is he a flash in the pan or someone that we can expect to see next to our favorite characters? Well, Chicago PD has one such new guy.
New-ish guy, at least. Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) was someone who appeared in a lone episode last year, but he’s really made his presence known this season, as he’s gone undercover and managed to avoid a close brush with death.
Who is Torres on Chicago PD?
Torres is being prepped, literally and metaphorically, to be the replacement for the departing Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). It was Halstead who first spotted the rookie, and despite some initial uncertainty, he decided Torres was worth adding to the team.
Torres’s knowledge of the city is invaluable, and his willingness to throw himself into dangerous situations is commendable, especially when someone like Voight (Jason Beghe) is on the warpath and calling shots.

The spotlight has definitely been on the established characters so far in season 10, which makes sense given Halstead’s impending departure. That said, Torres is doing a good job of integrating himself into the team without drawing too much attention to the generation that preceded him.
Benjamin Levy Aguilar, has said that the dynamic between the characters has been mirrored offscreen. He praised Soffer for being a mentor to him on the set. He told Today:
"“It’s been like art imitating life in a way, because Jesse and I became really good friends and he’s been like a mentor for me. The same way he took in the character, he took me in as well. He’s a brilliant human being and I’m gonna miss him.”"
We get the impression that Torres will do a fine job honoring Halstead.
