It’s been a while since One Chicago has had a crossover, and fans want it. Thankfully, they aren’t alone in wanting to see all three shows in the franchise: Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, join forces to solve an overarching case. Creator Dick Wolf has made it clear that he wants to see the same thing…

Wolf hasn’t spoken on his plans for a three-part crossover involving these shows, but Chicago Fire showrunners Derek Haas and Andrea Newman revealed some interesting (and promising!) news about Wolf’s plans as we head into the 2022-23 TV season.

Here’s what you need to know.

One Chicago crossover 2022

So, for starters, One Chicago was supposed to have a crossover event last season. The plan was to bring everyone together for a single night of interconnected fun, but COVID and scheduling issues led to an indefinite delay. Now, though, it seems like the gears are turning and the time is near.

Haas told TV Insider that everything is in place for a crossover, but that he and the other people involved in running the franchise are working out the safety aspect:

"“If Dick Wolf has his way, the chances are 100 percent, but we haven’t actually [solved] the medical restrictions that we need to to have that many cast members interacting with other shows’ cast members.”"

Newman did assure fans that there will be plenty of smaller crossovers to hold fans over, until they sort out the medical restrictions. This has already proven to be true from the small sample size of episodes we’ve seen. Chicago Fire characters appeared on Chicago Med, and Chicago PD‘s Burgess (Marina Squerciati) made a cameo at the end of Med‘s season premiere.

One crossover we won’t be seeing is a final scene between the Halstead brothers: Jay (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Will (Nick Gehlfuss). The latter confirmed that there won’t be a crossover moment with the two characters before the former leaves Chicago PD. It’s unfortunate, but it make sense given the restrictions and the fact that we don’t know how soon Soffer is going to exit.
