Is Jesse Lee Soffer still on Chicago PD? (Did Halstead leave?)
Jay Halstead is part of what’s made Chicago PD such a beloved show. The character has been a beacon of justice and sound reasoning, and the fact that he caught himself before committing a corrupt act, and decided to turn his badge in, tells you that he’s still as moral as ever.
Unfortunately, it also means he’s done with the IU. The character decided to turn his badge in during PD‘s third episode of the season, and he told Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) that he needs to go to a place where good and evil are more clear-cut.
Does this mean that Halstead and the actor who plays him, Jesse Lee Soffer, is still on the show?
Is Jay Halstead still on Chicago PD?
Unfortunately, he is not. The character has made what appears to be a definitive exit, after weeks of anticipation and speculation. Soffer confirmed that he would be leaving PD prior to the season 10 premiere, though it was unclear if he’d be leaving early on if he’d make it to the finale. Sadly, the former proved to be the case.
Barring any radical changes, Halstead will not be appearing in any more episodes for the rest of season 10. The character told Upton that he will be working with a task force in Bolivia, and plans to return to Chicago after eight months of service. The decision to give him a hard return date is an interesting one, as it means the writers have tentative plans to bring him back at some point.

Soffer hasn’t discussed plans to reprise his role in the future, but given the way that One Chicago has handled the departure of April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) on Med and Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) on Fire, there’s a definitive possibility. Sexton and Casey both made cameos after they officially left the show, and the former is currently set to to appear in multiple episodes.
So while the door isn’t closed on Halstead for good, we can pretty much write his presence off for the near future. The character has left the building, and his protege, Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) is poised to take over the reins.
