We’re not going to lie, the Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) storyline was tough. Chicago PD lost a big part of its team when he turned his badge in, and it’s going to fall to the rest of the IU members to carry on in his absence.

Fortunately, they won’t be doing it alone. Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan has revealed that fans will be getting not one, but two new characters in season 10, and that both of them will be getting lots of screen time opposite vets like Voight (Jason Beghe) and Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).

While one of these characters has already been unveiled, Chief O’Neal (Michael Gaston), Sigan told CinemaBlend that the second new character for season 10 has yet to be revealed: the chief’s son, played by Jefferson White.

It’s unclear what role the younger O’Neal will play in the show (we’ve seen bit players take on both heroic and villainous slants), but it sounds as though both him and his father will be closely tied to the various storylines of the season.

"“[Chief O’Neal] will be coming back quite a bit in the first half of the season, as well as his son, who is played by Jefferson White”, Sigan explained. “We’re very excited to have both of them, and they will both be recurring through the first nine.”"

The showrunner also divulged some information regarding the overarching narrative of season 10, and whether fans can expect to see more standalone cases or interconnected ones, as we did with Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado) last year.

"“It will probably be very similar to last season where we had Anna, and her storyline really became serialized, and I would say probably six episodes of it”, she added. “We’ll do a very similar thing this season. We’ve got some great standalones and great cases that we solve. and then we will have some overarching cases that go more than one episode.”"

The blend of the two approaches makes sense, as it will allow for different angles to explore the characters. The jury is still out on whether an overarching storyline will include a One Chicago crossover, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
