Get ready for Chicago Med season 8 episode 5, “Yep, This is The World We Live In” with our extensive episode 5 preview.
One of the biggest surprises from the season premiere of Chicago Med was the return of Yaya DaCosta as April Sexton in the closing moments of the episode. Fans were thrilled when DaCosta returned in a surprise reunion between her character and Brian Tee’s Dr. Ethan Choi, but then a handful of episodes came and went without any sight of her.
Well, that all changes this Wednesday as April makes her way back to Med and it seems she’ll be reuniting with more than Ethan this time around!

The fifth episode of Chicago Med season 8 will arrive on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 8/7c on NBC. For those unable to catch the episode live, you can catch the latest episodes of Chicago Med the next day on Peacock!
Chicago Med season 8 episode 5 synopsis
Surprisingly, the synopsis for episode 5 does not offer up any hints regarding how April will make her return this week and instead suggests the storylines introduced in episode 4 will bleed into this week’s episode.
As teased by the episode synopsis, one of the victims of the train crash Crockett responded to last week will now find themselves in need of a transplant which will force Crockett to improvise in an unexpected way. It seems we’re also going to see the effects of the supply chain shortages continue to be felt at Med.

Here’s how NBC officially describes season 8 episode 5:
"The effects of the supply chain shortages continue to impact the E.D. when Vanessa’s drug dealer reappears. One of the victims of the recent train crash needs a transplant, forcing Crockett to improvise. Charles and Nellie help a patient with amnesia."

The promo for Chicago Med season 8 episode 5 seems to suggest this week is going to be a difficult one for the men and women of Med after a patient loses control and attacks several members of the E.D. team.
