Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) has had it rough on Chicago PD. Last season, she was faced with going to prison over the accidental killing of a suspect, and this season, she had to watch as her husband, Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), quit the force and left the country.

It makes sense that she would have a lot on her mind, and even more sense that she would want to block most of it out. Upton has been throwing herself into her work since Halstead left, and the desire to find a distraction might lead her into dangerous territory.

Here’s what we know about Upton’s arc for the rest of season 10.

Who does Jimmy from Yellowstone play on Chicago PD?

The character goes full-on obsession mode in the episode “Pink Cloud”, and given the grim subject matter, it makes sense. She’s going to do whatever she can to bring down the people behind the human trafficking ring, even if it means taking down Sean (Jefferson White), the son of the new precinct chief.

The thing is, there’s more to Sean than meets the eye. The actor who plays him recently sat down with TV Line, and he revealed some unexpected things about his dynamic with Upton. He refers to the cop as a “kindred spirit”, and notes that his character provides a shoulder to cry on at a crucial time in her life.

"“What she’s going through — the difficulty of that — he offers to be an outlet and a resource as she navigates [it]”, White added. “Sean himself has a complicated relationship with the police, and that also means he has a completely different perspective on [the case].”"

It makes sense that Upton would be drawn to an outsider, as the rest of the IU know Halstead and likely remind her of his time there. Sean represents something different and something damaged, which makes their exchanges feel more even. It remains to be seen what kind of guy Sean is, but we’re definitely leery of him and his past as the case unfolds.
