Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) is one of the best to ever do it on Chicago Fire. He’s fearless, smart, and experienced when it comes to blazes, so he’s often the one who saves lives during emergency situations.

That said, Severide has another talent: solving arson crimes. He’s a detective in addition to being a daredevil, and this talent has manifested over the last couple of seasons. It will be the focus of the upcoming episode, the fittingly titled “All-Out Mystery.”

Will the veteran decide to jump ship and join Chicago’s OFI? Or is he a firehouse 51 guy for life?

Is Severide transferring to another firehouse?

First, let’s define “OFI”, which is the Office of Fire Investigation. Those who work for the OFI do not actively stop fires, but come in after the fact if a fire is suspected to have been started on purpose. Severide has worked several cases alongside OFI’s Wendy Seager (Andy Allo), and she has often said that he’s ridiculously skilled when it comes to uncovering the truth.

This is a possibility worth considering, especially if Taylor Kinney decides he wants to step down from the show at one point. Instead of killing off the character, or having him move to another city, it would be much more plausible and satisfying if he merely left the 51 to do something he was equally good at.

It would also allow Chicago Fire writers to bring Severide back for the occasional storyline, without having to bend over backwards for an explanation. The show has built up his relationship with the agency for quite a while now, and if explored, it would be one of the most well thought-out exits in the show’s history.

Of course, this is all highly speculative. Kinney has expressed no desire to leave Chicago Fire yet, and frankly, on the heels of Casey (Jesse Spencer) leaving, he’s more important to the show than ever. If this transfer were to happen, it would not go down in season 11.

Severide is still the star of the show, and based on the enthusiasm Kinney has continued to show, he will be the star for seasons to come.
