Casey (Jesse Spencer) leaving Chicago Fire was the biggest storyline to come out of season 10, but it looks like his hiatus may not be as long as we thought. He already made a cameo in the Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) wedding, and now it looks like he’s going to appear in season 11.

The circumstances surrounding Casey’s return remain unclear, and it has not been confirmed by the cast or crew, but there are some interesting tidbits that suggest something special is being planned for the show’s midseason finale.

Here’s what you need to know.

Is Casey returning to Chicago Fire season 11?

The Casey theory started when a Reddit user posted some information regarding the schedule for episodes 7-9. The user pointed out that photos were restricted during the production of these two specific episodes, and the reasoning behind it may be that showrunners don’t want the surprise return of Casey to be spoiled.

It makes sense when one considers the open door policy that Spencer has with producer Derek Haas. The actor is very much plugged into the world of Chicago Fire still, and he seems more than willing to make the occasional cameo to make his character’s absence feel more authentic.

That said, some fans believe that the rumor is baseless, and actually detrimental to the narrative that the show is trying to weave around Casey’s ex, Brett (Kara Killmer). The season 11 premiere was focused on Brett’s decision to leave Casey, and the implication was that she has a season of personal growth ahead of her.

If Casey were to return so soon, it could step on whatever growth she’s managed so far, and lead her to consider getting back together with him. We wouldn’t be surprised if the two get together in the long run, but for the time being, it makes more sense to keep them apart (especially since one of them is technically not on the show anymore).

We have several weeks before we get to episodes 7-9, but we suggest you keep your eyes peeled for any Casey info. We’ll keep updated on what we find.
