Who is leaving Chicago Med in season 8? (SPOILERS)
Chicago Med keeps dropping bombs on its viewers. There have been a staggering amount of cast turnover in season 8, despite there having only been six episodes that have aired. The thing is, the turnover is going to continue.
In an effort to keep all the facts straight, and prepare for what’s coming down the road, we made this quick rundown of all the characters who have exited in season 8, along with all of the those who are slated to exit in the future.
Vanessa Taylor leaving Chicago Med
The season 8 premiere saw the tragic departure of Dr. Dylan Scott (Guy Lockard). Despite having only been part of Gaffney Medical center for a season, the character was immediately embraced by fans due to his charisma and his desire to do good. Sadly, his police officer past caught up with him, and his desire to help a fellow officer resulted in tragedy.
Scott’s decision to leave at the end of the premiere was a logical one, given the trauma he had experienced, but it was still tough to witness. It felt as though he had so many more stories to participate in, and given his past, it seems like a missed opportunity that he didn’t have more crossover opportunities with Chicago PD.
Dr. Pamela Blake (Sarah Rafferty) also parted ways with Gaffney, though it was something that was set up in the previous season finale. A surgery to remedy issues with her hands went awry, and her career as a surgeon was effectively over.

The latest (though not the last) addition to this list was Vanessa Taylor (Asjha Cooper). Despite seeming like one of the staff members who would always be around, the character announced that she would be quitting her job and moving to the Philippines to help those in need. It was a shocking development, but one that led to some incredibly emotional moments for fans and characters alike.
Then there’s Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee). Choi has been a mainstay from the Chicago Med pilot, and even when he’s been MIA, his presence can be felt. It’s been confirmed that the character will be leaving Med before the halfway point of the season, though the specifics of his departure are still hazy.
To make matters more bittersweet, April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) has returned to the fold, and will likely play a role in his decision to leave. Med has done an admirable job of making these exits feel organic and understandable to the viewer, but we do hope there aren’t too many more in store!
