Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Severide (Taylor Kinney) seem as though they have most of their issues behind them. At least, as a couple. They struggled to maintain their engagement during Chicago Fire season 10, and they nearly got killed on their honeymoon, which, admittedly, wasn’t their fault.

The current season has shown a different side of Stellaride, one that is more even-keeled and less caught up in drama, but it doesn’t sound as though the calm will last. A recent interview with the co-showrunner, Andrea Newman, revealed that there’s still plenty of trouble in paradise.

Kidd and Severide relationship problems on Chicago Fire

Speaking with TV Line, Newman told fans that upcoming episodes will focus on some new issues that arise between Kidd and Severide.

"“These two love each other with everything they’ve got, and support each other through thick and thin”, she said in response to a fan question. “But… there will be a few big wrenches thrown their way as the season progresses, so we’ll have to see how they handle those.”"

While a little bit alarming to hear, it makes complete sense. There have been seeds of dissent between the couple already, as evidenced by their different approaches to handling a teenager in need of proper parenting. As we previously mentioned, Kidd took on a maternal role with vigor, while Severide preferred to remove himself from the situation and remain distant.

It’s clear they are on on different wavelengths when it comes to the idea of starting a family, which could be an issue that reappears down the line in season 11. There was some tension at the heart of the episode “All-Out Mystery”, in which Kidd and Severide team up to investigate a fire for the OFI.

What’s telling about Newman’s quote is that she mentions a “few big wrenches”, which means it won’t be a single issue that causes strife between the couple. There will be several different things that arise, and we couldn’t be more intrigued to find out what they are.
