2022 has been quite an interesting year for Chicago Fire and the One Chicago franchise. Across the past several months, we’ve seen many beloved members of the One Chicago family stepping away with the year bringing many cast shake-ups.

Now, the franchise is about to bid farewell to one of the men responsible for creating the show that started it all and whose impact on the One Chicago Universe is unmeasurable.

As first reported by VarietyChicago Fire co-creator Derek Haas is set to exit Wolf Entertainment and his roles as co-showrunner on the long-running series. His exit from Wolf Entertainment will also see him stepping away from his roles as executive producer on Chicago PD and Chicago Med, as well as from his show-running duties on FBI: International, which he also co-created.

Why is Derek Haas leaving Chicago Fire and the One Chicago shows?

News that Derek Haas will be leaving Chicago Fire and the One Chicago franchise comes as quite a shock to many fans, fans who are understandably eager to know why Haas is leaving the franchise after 10 years. So why exactly is Haas leaving?

As Haas revealed in a statement to Variety, he is leaving Wolf Entertainment to focus on creating new shows, though no projects have been announced just yet.

"“Although I am leaving Wolf Entertainment next year to focus on creating new shows, I’m entirely committed to delivering amazing episodes of Chicago Fire and FBI: International through the end of the current seasons,” Haas said in a statement. “I learned everything I know about storytelling, pace, characters, production values, and hiring the best cast, crews, and staffs from Dick Wolf and Peter Jankowski, and as hard as it is to leave a place you love and have called home for over a decade, including incredible support from Universal Television, NBC and CBS, I look forward to building my own brand in entertainment.”"
