Our hearts go out to Brett (Kara Killmer). She took the departure of Casey (Jesse Spencer) in stride last season, and her decision to break up with him during the season 11 premiere made sense, in both the emotional and logical sense. Chicago Fire‘s beloved couple simply had bad timing.

Brett has made a point of throwing herself into her work post-Casey, but a recent interview with Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman suggests that the character is ready to put herself out there and start dating again.

Will it lead to Brett finding a brand new love interest?

Will Casey and Brett get back together on Chicago Fire?

Newman told TV Line that she’s enthusiastic about the direction that Brett’s character will be going as we head towards the end of 2022. She singled out the episode that will air on Nov. 16th in particular, as a turning point.

"“Brett will date again!”, Newman stated. “She meets someone that has a surprising connection to the past, and she’ll go on her first date since Casey left.”"

While some fans may cry foul, as the Casey breakup happened a handful of episodes ago, the date doesn’t mean that Brett is completely over him. In fact, Newman seems to suggest that while the date goes well, it serves as a reminder that the character still has some things to work through. She was never going to find her soul mate on the first date back.

"“Falling in love again, though, is a whole different issue…” the showrunner adds. “A long time is subjective, I guess, but she’s in love with Casey. There’s no doubt. You can’t just shut that off. So that’s gong to be something she’s struggling with as she tries to move forward.”"

It seems like the show is doing a good job of respecting the Brett and Casey relationship that we all came to know and love, while at the same time allowing Brett to grow, change, and search for different experiences now that Casey is not a direct part of her life. Makes sense to us.
