Chicago PD: Do Halstead and Upton divorce in season 10?

It’s no secret that Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) are going through a rough time on Chicago PD. The former has not only left the city, but traveled to Bolivia to put his life on the line on a regular basis, so it only makes sense that Upton would be broken up about it.

It’s said to see, really, given how long they’ve been together and how exciting it was to see them get married (covertly) in season 9. There was an effort to assure the fans that the couple would stay together in light of Halstead’s exit, but the more time passes the harder it will be.

Will Halstead and Upton break up on Chicago PD?

Showrunner Gwen Sigan has kept the future of the couple under wraps, and understandably so, given how fraught Upton’s current caseload is. The character is buried in her work, and making a point of staying distracted so as not to dwell on Halstead’s absence.

A Reddit user recently posted a screenshot of a statement that reads:

"“Showrunner Gwen Sigan confirms that Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton will break up in light of Jesse Lee Soffer’s impending exit on Chicago PD Season 10.”"

You can view the original posting here. There hasn’t been anything to confirm the validity of the claim, including a link to the supposed Sigan interview. There would also be little benefit to the showrunner revealing such a major spoiler ahead of it’s reveal on the show.

That said, we suggest that fans heed this potential spoiler. Despite staying on as a director, Soffer has made it clear he won’t be back as Halstead for quite some time (if ever), so it will be tough for the writers to elongate the Halstead/Upton dynamic with only one of them being part of the show.

This is an issue we recently saw on Chicago Fire. Brett (Kara Killmer) decided to stay with Casey (Jesse Soffer) after he left the show, and while things worked for a while, she decided to end the relationship.

The jury is out on Halstead and Upton, and we sincerely hope they stay together, but we could see a divorce being a realistic solution to an otherwise tough problem for the writers.
